DANCES WE TEACH

YOUR FIRST LESSON

Everyone is a little nervous about trying something new, so here is a description of what to expect from your first lesson. The whole experience will last about an hour. The only rule about dress is to strive for comfort, so consider wearing loose clothing, smooth soled shoes (heels are optional for ladies). Tennis shoes are not ideal to dance in, and dark soles can mark our floor.

  1. Assessment Stage: You will first meet with one of our Managers who will ask you questions in order to better understand the following: What is your current dance experience (have you had any dance lessons before)? Is there a special event coming up that should be considered in planning your experience? Is there a particular dance that you want to learn and why?
  2. Instructor “Matching” Stage: Based on your answers, you will be matched with an instructor that best fits your particular needs.
  3. Dancing Stage: Your instructor will then work with you for 30 to 40 minutes teaching you basic elements, how to lead or follow, and introduce you to a basic in 1-2 dances.  Within a few minutes, you will be having so much fun that you have forgotten that there is anyone else in the room. Your instructor’s goal is to prove to you that 1) you CAN learn to dance and 2) that it's probably much easier than you ever anticipated!
  4. Presentation of Dance Packages: We set goals with our students, and your instructor can go over what dance options make sense for your goals and will also ask you to provide feedback on his or her teaching job. All of our introductory packages include a combination of Private Lessons, Group Classes, and Practice Parties to help you reach your goal quickly and easily!

For those of you that are more advanced, don't worry!  We have many levels of dancers ranging from

absolute beginner through advanced hobbyist.

HOW AND WHAT WE TEACH

Our Easy 3-Way Method of Teaching

  1. Private Instruction: These 50-minute lessons involve one-on-one instruction and allow 100% of your instructor's time and attention on you and your specific needs.
  2. Group Classes: These 50-minute classes allow many students to learn together, fine tune partnering skills, and interact with each other.
  3. Practice Sessions (Parties!!!): The best part about learning to dance at NDC! We have these parties every Friday Night, as well as many other activities, designed for you to practice with a wide variety of people.
